Diane Hickey
Diane spent her formative years surrounded by the mountains, rivers and valleys of New Hampshire, and this is where her love of Mother Earth (Pachamama) was born. Her lived experience brought her to the Rhode Island/Massachusetts area, then Georgia before arriving in the beautiful town of Ashland, Oregon.
For almost 20 years, Diane has been blessed with opportunities to work directly with Inka medicine men and women of Peru, as well with those who trained under them. One of the biggest influences is her Shipibo Plant Medicine teacher from the Amazon, and her journeys with the master ‘teacher plant’ Ayahuasca. The combination of traditional teachings and her relationship with Sacred Medicine shape the container she creates for her clients.
In addition to her ceremonial and plant medicine experiences, she continues to pursue additional trainings to support the challenges found in western societies, such as trauma and neglect. Her foundational studies include working with:
· Irene Lyon to learn about the language of the nervous system,
· Leela School of Awakening for the True Friend Method, the Enneagram and the Facilitator Training for licensure in Oregon, and with
· Atira Tan’s embodied practices for medicine spaces from which she obtained certification as a Somatic Plant Medicine Integration Practitioner.
She is committed to continued learning and self-exploration so that she may better support her clients.
She blends her ceremonial, somatic and trauma informed training to create the space, offer tools and her presence, so the client’s own inner wisdom and healing power is invited and honored.
Despacho
This is an optional step that is offered to clients before Sacred Medicine is consumed.
Despachos originated with the Q’ero people of the high Andes in Peru and is a sacred offering or prayer bundle. While there are different types of Despachos, for a journey ceremony the invitation is to create a mini-Ayni Despacho. Ayni, sacred reciprocity through right relationship: right thinking, right loving and right action. As part of the opening ceremony, I call upon the elements (earth, water, fire, air/wind) to support us through the journey. The Despacho is an expression of Gratitude to Pachamama (Mother Earth) for how she grounds, nourishes and supports us.
The client is invited to draw on one side of an 11” x 11” paper as they sit with their intent. It is about expressing the feeling of the intent on paper, with no worry about what it looks like. Once that feels complete, the paper is turned over and the client is invited to blow their prayers into whatever provided ingredients calls to them (e.g., candies, corn, beans, rice, etc.) and place in the center of the paper. Upon completion of adding ingredients, the Despacho is folded into a square and is put on the table beside them. It is available, if needed, during the journey if the client feels they need support on refocusing themselves on their intent. Upon returning home, the client can do their own personal ceremony to dispatch the prayers through fire, water or by burying it. A traditional Despacho Ceremony would have a fire ceremony and all participants would turn their back to the fire while they sing songs, indicated that they were not attached to the outcome. Only the fire tender would face the fire. With the Despacho created for the journey, the client should pay attention to the method of transmission (burn, water, bury or any combination) but not focus on the outcome. Traditionally it is burned within 24 hours, but this Despacho can wait a week or so before the prayers are transmuted.
